This is a work by K insai Fujii, a lead ing ceramic artist in the creation of Arita porcela in art. This beautiful small vase harmonizes Japan's national flower, the cherry blossom, with the lustrous purple overglaze characteristic of Arita ware. The delicate touch used to depict the cherry blossoms and the seigaiha (blue ocean wave) pattern in the background br ings an unparalleled sense of nobility and happ iness.
The production technique features both underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze enamels (nishiki) pa int ing. Underglaze blue (sometsuke) is a pa int ing technique where designs are applied to the bisque-fired body before glaz ing. in contrast, overglaze enamels (nishiki) is a technique where vivid colors such as red and green are added to the glazed and fired body. Both underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze enamels (nishiki) have their own challenges. Comb in ing these techniques requires exceptionally high skill, includ ing the overall composition of the pa int ing.
Stand ing at a height of 15.4 cm, this small vase is also ideal as a gift. Despite its small size, this vase is a masterpiece that embodies the p innacle of craftsmanship in potter's wheel, pa int ing, and fir ing techniques.
