This is a work by K insai Fujii, a lead ing master in the art of Arita ware.
It is a medium-sized vase depict ing graceful goldfish swimm ing elegantly. The contrast between the vivid blue and red of the goldfish and the silver tones of *plat inum decoration* (*purach ina-zai*) gives this piece a strik ing presence.
The motif of goldfish carries auspicious mean ings, especially in Japanese and Ch inese culture, symboliz ing “wealth and prosperity,” “happ iness and good fortune,” and “fertility and abundance.” The word *k ingyo* (“goldfish”) itself evokes “gold,” mak ing it a natural emblem of prosperity. in Ch inese culture in particular, the pronunciation of *k ingyo* (金魚) is identical to “abundant gold” (金余), express ing the wish for a life of overflow ing wealth.
in addition, goldfish swimm ing gracefully in water are regarded as symbols of purity and purification. The water itself, expressed here in plat inum decoration, represents clarity and cleans ing. Together, the imagery of swimm ing goldfish suggests the purification of the spirit and inner serenity.
Stand ing 20.8 cm tall, this vase is neither too large nor too small, mak ing it an ideal size for modern liv ing spaces. It is highly recommended as a ref ined and versatile piece that harmonizes beautifully with contemporary interiors.
