A One-of-a-K ind Vision of Fantasy: The Iridescent Elegance of Gold, Plat inum, and Color Foils.
This ceramic framed artwork of Mt. Fuji, created by master artisan Tatsuro Ono of Kohzan Kiln, exemplifies unparalleled orig inality in the world of Arita ware.
Ono’s hallmark lies in his use of haku ultra-th in metallic foils such as gold, plat inum, silver, and iridescent foil to create vivid visual expressions. These foils, pa instak ingly beaten and extended hundreds of times until th inner than breath, are carefully applied by hand us ing natural lacquer as an adhesive. Each foil must be affixed individually, requir ing exceptional precision and experience, as the lacquer must reach a precise semi-dry state for proper adhesion. After application, the work is fired at a low temperature of around 200°C to set the design mak ing the process both time-consum ing and highly intricate.
This particular piece showcases Mt. Fuji depicted entirely through layered gold, plat inum, silver, and iridescent foils. The sunlit sky sparkles, the mounta in ridges gently fade into the mist, and even the silhouettes of clouds and p ine trees curve with grace all rendered in the soft luster and depth unique to foil work.
Each piece is handmade and entirely unique, offer ing a different visual experience depend ing on the angle, time of day, or light ing. It is a superb work of art that blends traditional Japanese elegance with luxurious ref inement an exceptional choice for interior display, gift ing, or commemorative occasions.

At Kohzan Kiln, I have long been captivated by the brilliance of k inrande (gold-decorated ware). Over time, I began incorporat ing not only gold foil but also lesser-used materials such as plat inum foil, jewel beetle (tamamushi) foil, blue shell foil, and iridescent foil. My goal is to "pa int with foil" and br ing out a beauty unlike any other. I hope to cont inue creat ing works that br ing joy to many.
