-----------------------
This is a work by Kinsai Fujii, one of the leading artists in the world of Arita ware. Set against a vivid indigo-blue ground, this Somenishiki small vase is richly decorated with delicate yellow and green flowers covering the entire surface. Countless blossoms are meticulously painted as though overlapping one another, gracefully enveloping the softly rounded form of the vessel. Each individual flower has been carefully rendered with fine, precise brushwork. The beautiful harmony of indigo blue, yellow, and green creates a lively and elegant composition, giving this compact piece a remarkable presence despite its small size.
The piece combines two traditional Arita ware painting techniques: "Sometsuke" underglaze painting and "Nishiki" overglaze enameling. This combination of techniques is known as "Somenishiki." Sometsuke is a technique in which designs are painted directly onto the bisque-fired porcelain body before glazing. Nishiki, by contrast, is an overglaze technique in which vivid colors such as red and green are added after the porcelain has been glazed and fired. Each technique presents its own challenges, and combining the two requires an exceptionally high level of technical skill, as well as a sophisticated sense of composition to bring the entire design together.
At 15 cm in height, this compact vase is also well suited as a special gift.
Despite its relatively small size, the piece brings together the finest techniques of wheel throwing, intricate painting, and firing, making it an outstanding example of Kinsai Fujii's artistry.
