Works by the late Shinichiro Baba, the first-generation Shinemon and predecessor of the Shinemon Kiln, a representative kiln of Arita ware.A masterpiece matcha bowl traditionally used in the Japanese tea ceremony.
The Shinemon Kiln is a leading authority in the Y?hen technique?a method that skillfully manipulates glazes to create unique effects. This particular piece is a rare and valuable work produced during the developmental period of Y?hen ware, as the first-generation Shinemon, Shinichiro Baba, worked together with his successor, Kusuo Baba, to establish the style.
Y?hen refers to the natural transformations that occur in the glaze during firing, producing unpredictable colors and patterns that evoke the beauty and mystery of nature. The glaze used in this piece is called "Kinka-mon", or “golden flower pattern.” As the name suggests, it features golden crystalline patterns that resemble blooming flowers.
The Kinka-mon glaze is created by mixing various metal oxides and firing them under precise conditions, which results in golden-brown speckles appearing on the surface. The effect is reminiscent of gold blossoms scattered across the piece, imparting a sense of grace and refinement. This elegant and noble glaze gives the work a serene, dignified presence.
