The chrysanthemum has long been cherished in ceramic art as a noble motif representing longevity and virtue.
The decorative techniques used in this piece include both underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze enamel painting (akae / nishiki-e).
Sometsuke is the technique of painting on the bisque-fired body before applying the glaze, while nishiki-e involves applying vivid colors such as red and green after the glaze firing. Each method requires advanced skill, and combining them demands an exceptional sense of composition and refined craftsmanship.
